One of the best books I have read in a long time. A true page turner that you would not be able to move away from.
It is also very interesting how the book helped me deal with the concepts behind the value of time and belonging, the second of which is increasingly a concern for many of us living this rapidly globalised world.
Interesting first novel, a light and enjoyable fantasy read. The story departs at times from the classic high fantasy strain for a more incisive exposition of sociopolitical ideas of justice and legality, which makes for a multifaceted and compelling read, though characterisation occasionally lacks nuance. Overall, would recommend
This is a very impressive first novel. Mr Khan clearly has a natural flair for fantasy writing, and his passion for the world he has created clearly shines through from the very first page. The world he's created is a truly unique fantasy world that asks all the big questions while also being a grippingly good adventure story all at the same time.
While you may have doubts about reading a debut novel, my suggestion to you is to just read the first few pages (it's free, just use the look inside function), I guarantee you that you won't want to stop!
I'd highly recommend this novel and if this is the quality of his debut novel I'm really excited to see what Mr Khan comes up with in the years to come!
